Manju's elder sister informed her mother, a peon in the railways, that the girl was not present at home. The family members knew about Manju's affair with someone identified as 'Karim' from Dhobi Nagar, and lodged a complaint against her boyfriend.
Police slapped charges of kidnapping against Karim in line with Supreme Court guidelines, which make it compulsory for the cops to register an offence whenever a minor's missing complaint is filed.
However, Manju returned home on Monday morning. She was brought to the police station by her family members. Police said Manju claimed to have spent the night with her boyfriend in an autorickshaw close to her place. She also ensured that the cops recorded her statement against her mother for registering an offence against Karim.
Not moved by her words, cops sent Manju for a medical examination anyway. A senior officer said Karim had fled from home on getting news of the complaint.
