AKOLA: A student of standard VIII, Rushikesh Sadanand Devkar (13), of Mangrulpir in bordering Washim district, was kidnapped on Saturday morning. However, he escaped from the clutches of the unknown kidnappers at Akola on Sunday night, sources said.
The boy is a student of Zilla Parishad secondary school at Mangrulpir. He was dragged away by kidnappers, who confined him in an Omni van and brought him to Akola around evening.
Later, the boy escaped from captivity on the pretext of answering nature's call. According to the boy, there were 7-8 kidnappers.
The boy was seen crying near the central bus stand here. Activists of Chhava noticed the boy, who later told ZP member Dr Shankar Wakode that he had been kidnapped at the point of a knife. He was provided a meal in Hotel Rajeshwari by the activists.
He gave the mobile number of his maternal uncle Vinod Jadhav. His parents and relatives had been in search of the boy after he did not return home after school. He was handed over to his parents later in the night. Further investigations are on.
