Kharge to attend Christian rights meet in city
Nagpur: Nearly six months after he was appointed AICC in-charge of Maharashtra, leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in city on Friday. This is his maiden visit after taking the charge. State Congress president Ashok Chavan is reaching here on Saturday morning. Both will be special guests at the ‘Masih Adhikar Sammelan ‘ (Christian rights convention) to be organized in city.
The Christian convention will be held at Mecosabagh Methodist grounds from 11am and has been organized by Christian Co-Ordination Committee under the directions of AICC minority cell vice-president Anil Thomas. Vijay Barse, Pastor Elizabeth Martin and Vijay Fernandes are conveners of the various committees that are organizing the event. A committee release said religious heads, preachers and followers of the faith from across Maharashtra will be attending the event in large numbers.
City Congress president Vikas Thackeray, local leaders Abhijit Wanjari, spokesman Atul Londhe received Kharge at the airport who arrived from Bangalore. They escorted him to a hotel where he is expected to meet city Congress leaders and also those from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli on Saturday morning before attending the convention. Asked about Kharge not summoning any party meeting in the city till date to douse the unending factional fights, Thakre said the matter has been discussed in meetings held in Mumbai.
