Jains to stage protest against seer’s murder
Nagpur: The Jain community members will stage a peaceful protest march against the brutal murder of Jain seer Acharya Kamakumar Nandi Maharaj in the Belagavi district of Karnataka.“The unprecedented incident on July 5, is the first such brutal killing of any Jain seer in the history of independent India,” said Nitin Nakhate of the Sakal Jain Samaj.Acharya Kamkumarnandi, revered by the Jain community, was abducted from a Jain ashram on Nandi Hills in Hirekund, Karnataka. His beheaded body was found in a bore well 35km away from the ashram on July 7."The Jains, who always believed in non-violence, are seething with anger and demanded justice. The Bharatvarshiya Digambar Jain Tirthashetra Committee will take out a protest march on Thursday from Gandhi Putla to Samvidhan Chowk," Satish Jain Pendhari.The committee representative Ashish Jain expressed dismay over the horrifying act. The Jain community of Nagpur has condemned the incident and submitted memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah, the chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah, and the local administration, demanding strict action against the perpetrators of crime.The Sakal Jain Samaj demanded police protection for Jain seers and wanted the governments to uphold the values of non-violence and compassion that form the bedrock of their spiritual tradition.
