‘Instill values in kids to enhance moral character’
NAGPUR: In a bid to enhance moral character of children through education, a three-day workshop ‘Jeevan Vidya’ was held at
Trainer Ravi Sinha discussed values like equality, gratitude and kindness which need to be instilled in kids to influence their behaviour towards society in a positive way and produce not only a well-mannered human being but also a sensitive global citizen. Principal Kenneth Mendonca was present at the workshop.
Sinha said that teachers can make a difference to the world by conditioning the mind of students. He said, “The idea of education is to civilize young minds and transform them into good individuals. But with the rise of educational institutions, there have been increase in number of police stations and courts too. This indicates that we are lagging behind in infusing moral values.”
According to him, punishing someone for committing a crime will not ensure that the rules won’t be breached again. Instead, the root cause of immoral attitude should be checked and rectified. He said, “The problem lies in mischievous minds. If their thought process is corrected, their minds will be moulded in a better way.”
Explaining the benefits of this method on a larger scale, he said, “Despite having different mindsets, the basic perception about things of every person should be similar. They should understand natural realities of life in a like manner. This will encourage a conflict-less society and generate global peace and harmony.”
Sinha said that lessons for good conduct should become part of mainstream education and teachers should communicate the same through their actions and behaviour in school because observing them practically will have more impact than verbal lectures.
