Indora’s conservancy lanes set for Rs80 lakh makeover with new sewers and wall art

Nagpur: Indora and its nearby areas' long-neglected conservancy lanes are finally set for a major transformation, with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) rolling out a Rs80 lakh makeover plan that blends basic civic upgrades with a strong focus on visual appeal. Covering 23 inner lanes, the initiative aims to turn some of the city's most overlooked stretches into cleaner, safer, and more vibrant public spaces ahead of the Swachh Bharat survey.At present, many of these narrow lanes are in poor condition, with broken surfaces, ageing sewer lines, and crumbling side walls. Residents have long struggled with sanitation issues and poor upkeep.The work will begin with clearing out old and damaged structures to prepare the ground for fresh construction. Existing sewer lines will be upgraded and extended where required, aiming to reduce waterlogging and ensure smoother waste flow.New paving will be laid across all lanes, replacing uneven and damaged surfaces. Side walls along the lanes will be repaired and strengthened. Officials say that this wall space will be painted with colourful designs, social messages, and themed artwork. Among the planned themes are murals inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.An NMC official from the Mangalwari zone said the current condition of these conservancy lanes is extremely poor, with damaged infrastructure and neglected surroundings. "There are very few such lanes in Nagpur, and they have been in bad shape for a long time. Through this project, we are improving the sewer system, rebuilding the lanes properly, and giving them a fresh look," the official said.He added that the civic body is open to incorporating new ideas even after the tender process. "If the selected contractor suggests better design or beautification concepts, we will consider them.
