IIMC West Zone Amravati Centre to get new home on 15-acre site in Badnera
Nagpur: The construction of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) West Zone Amravati Centre, a premier institution under the Union Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is progressing on a 15-acre site in Badnera, Amravati. With a sanctioned budget of Rs 90 crore, tenders for the project have been invited through the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) portal, with the submission deadline set for December 27.Secretary of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, has appealed to contractors nationwide and in Vidarbha to expedite the tender process to ensure timely construction of this prestigious centre for media and communication studies. Speaking in Nagpur, Jaju reviewed the project with Pradeep Dixit, chief engineer of CPWD Nagpur, and met with officials from All India Radio, Doordarshan, the Press Information Bureau, and the Central Communications Bureau.The IIMC Amravati Centre, established in 2012 to serve the western Vidarbha region, is expected to have some of its academic complexes operational by the 2026-27 academic year. The upcoming facilities will include state-of-the-art administrative and academic buildings, separate hostels for male and female students, staff quarters, and a 200-seat auditorium.IIMC is renowned for its excellence in media education, with five regional centres across India offering journalism courses in English, Hindi, and regional languages. These centres are located in Amravati (Maharashtra), Dhenkanal (Odisha), Aizawl (Mizoram), Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), and Kottayam (Kerala).At the review meeting, deputy director general of All India Radio Nagpur, Ramesh Gharde, CPWD chief engineer Pradeep Dixit, and IIMC Amravati regional director, Rajesh Kushwaha, along with other senior officials, were present. The stakeholders expressed optimism that the new academic infrastructure will enhance the institute's ability to nurture top-notch professionals in media and communication.
