Nagpur: More than three months after the murder of Congress leader Hidayat Patel at Akot town of Akola district in January, one of the alleged key conspirators, Raju Boche, was arrested on Thursday evening in Nagpur.
Sources said Boche was traced to Ravi Bhavan by the supporters of the slain Congress leader. As he attempted to flee, a scuffle ensued, leaving him injured. Patel's supporters immediately handed him over to Sadar police station. Later, a team from Akot police took him into their custody.
Police sources confirmed that Boche had arrived in Nagpur specifically to meet his lawyer. Akola superintendent of police, Archit Chandak, said the accused is being brought to Akola for further questioning and proceedings.
Though Boche was not physically present at the murder spot, he faced charges owing to deep-rooted political rivalry.
Boche's arrest is being viewed as a major breakthrough in the political murder that sent shock waves across Vidarbha. Akot police have already arrested two other persons linked to the killing.
