Govt clears Rs55cr for advancedequipment at med, dental colleges
Nagpur: The state govt has granted administrative approval of nearly Rs55cr recently for purchasing advanced medical equipment at both Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals and Govt Dental College in Nagpur, aiming to expand super speciality services and enable faster, higher-quality treatment for critically ill patients.Under the 2025-26 state plan, Maharashtra medical education and drugs dept approved about Rs38cr to start an interventional radiology dept at Super Speciality Hospital. Of this, Rs32cr will be used to procure a digital subtraction angiography system, enabling precise imaging of blood vessels and early detection and treatment of blockages, aneurysms, and bleeding in the brain, heart, and other organs. The system will also include intravascular ultrasound for accurate stent placement, a rotational atherectomy system to remove calcified blockages, along with an anaesthesia workstation and ultrasonography machine, facilitating minimally invasive procedures and reducing patient risk.
For treatment of large and non-healing wounds, Rs6crore was approved for a vacuum-based therapy system. The paediatrics dept will receive Rs6 crore, while Rs75 lakh was sanctioned for an automated blood component separation unit for sickle cell patients, and Rs4.33cr to upgrade the ICU.The Government Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, was sanctioned Rs3.53cr for procurement of 86 equipments. Additionally, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital will receive Rs4.33cr to strengthen its ICU and casualty depts.Experts emphasise that along with funding, strict monitoring of equipment quality, pricing, and utilisation, and a transparent procurement process, will be crucial to ensure improved healthcare delivery.
