Nagpur: Socially and politically active in Parseoni taluka, Gaurav Jain, 32, was found cold, motionless and sprawled on the ground, near his car on Wednesday morning. While doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, the autopsy pointed to consumption of insecticides. Police sources said depression may have driven Gaurav to take the extreme step.
Gaurav's body was found at a desolate spot near Bhagi Mahari village, 12km off his residence in ward no. 7 of Parseoni, police sources said. A bottle of insecticide was recovered from inside the vehicle. He reportedly vomited inside the car before collapsing outside.
Father of a young daughter, Gaurav was widely respected for his humanitarian efforts. He organised numerous health camps, facilitated free cataract surgeries, distributed spectacles to the needy, and helped many underprivileged people gain hospital admissions and timely medical assistance.
As in-charge of the health cell of a prominent political party, he maintained close ties with a senior minister and was actively involved in saving and improving countless lives.
Despite his active public life, Gaurav was battling severe depression for a few months following health complications, particularly sleep apnoea.
He attempted suicide about a week ago by consuming sleeping pills but was rescued in time. In recent days, he was sharing his emotional distress on social media and confiding in friends and acquaintances. Many tried to counsel him, but his mental health struggles continued.
On Tuesday, Gaurav left home telling his mother he was heading to Bitoli village in Parseoni taluka and would return within an hour. Instead, he drove to the isolated location near Bhagi Mahari, where he allegedly died by suicide. His body was spotted on Wednesday morning by a local police warden, who immediately alerted police. Cops registered the case as accidental death.
