GMCH conducts blood donation drive for children battling cancer
Nagpur: The Govt Medical College and Hospital, conducted a blood donation camp to mark International Childhood Cancer Day, at Futala Lake premises on Saturday. Highlighting the importance of blood in the treatment of paediatric cancer patients, the organisers deliberately chose Valentine's Day to underline love, humanity and social responsibility. This year marked the 18th consecutive year of the initiative, during which more than 300 units of blood were collected.
Held under the guidance of Dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye and Associate Dean Dr Devendra Mahore, the camp was inaugurated by medical superintendent Dr Avinash Gawande in presence of head of department Dr Ashokkumar Diwan. Social service superintendent Vikram Lanjewar played a key role in coordinating and managing the programme. With the message, "A pledge to donate, a mission to save lives – every home should have a blood donor," the initiative stood out as a powerful symbol of love, compassion, and humanity, inspiring citizens to look beyond celebration and contribute meaningfully to society.The event was attended by Dr Shailendra Jambhulkar, Dr Vijay Mohabiya, and Blood Bank in-charge Dr Pratik Chide. Several social workers, including Jagjit Singh, Dnyaneshwar Dada Rakshak of Gurudev Seva Mandal, Purushottam Bhosale, and Pravin Kamble of Pravin Construction, were also present.Volunteers Harshal Jambhule, Apurva Chaugule, Ashish Fulzhele, Prashant Dhakane, Nagsen Badge, Saurabh Gajghate, Pritam Meshram, Siddharth Wankhede, Pranay Walke, Saurabh Gude, and Darshan Chaure actively supported the drive.The successful conduct of the camp was made possible through the collective efforts of the Students' Council of the Medical College, Dr Himanshu Piprikar, the entire Blood Bank team of GMCH Nagpur, and CanKids–KidsCan.
