Nagpur: Krutika Bhiwgade (10) died at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Sunday after sustaining more than 90% burn injuries at her residence at Saraipeth. Krutika had suffered burns while trying to heat water on a stove for bathing. The incident took place when Krutika’s mother Varsha had gone out of home for some work. Krutika, a Std V student and elder among two sisters, had just returned from a class.
While leaving, Varsha asked Krutika to keep the water vessel on the stove for heating. It’s learnt, Krutika’s clothes caught fire while she was trying to lit the stove.
Police said Krutika’s grandparents rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams but she was already in flames. She was admitted to GMCH in serious condition. The doctors declared her dead after trying to save her for around seven hours. Krutika’s father, Naresh, is a Starbus driver. Imambada police have registered accidental death.
