NAGPUR: Four persons including two proprietors of a lottery centre in Gokulpeth market, were arrested on Wednesday by crime branch sleuths.
Sub-inspector Arvind Saraf said that accused co-owners of lottery centre Kishore Gaidhane and Sanjay Dongre were allegedly operating an illegal gambling den under the garb of selling lottery tickets since last a year-and-a-half.
Apart from Gaidhane and Dongre, agent Kishore Rathi and customer Govinda Kalsa were also arrested.
Police said that four mobile phones, three calculators, betting documents and about Rs 5,000 were also seized from the spot.
"We had laid a trap to catch a notorious goon. Head constable Pramod Mohite was informed by a punter about the den where illegal gambling was going on. When we went in to verify the information, we were surprised to see the ongoing gambling at the centre that apparently sold lottery tickets," said Saraf. "There were no valid documents in possession of the owners," claimed Saraf.
The accused, slapped with the Gambling Act, would be produced before the court on Thursday.
The lottery centre used to act as a nerve centre in the area and the accused used to control the satta market. All the small satta dens were the associates of it. Police said that a keen watch will be kept on such dens in future.
