Flawless ‘Pati gele ka Kathewadi’ inspires awe

Nagpur: Popular stars of Marathi film industry staged a flawless play titled ‘Pati gele ka Kathewadi’ which entertained the crowd to the core at Deshpande Hall on Saturday. The show was presented by Sunil Barve Kalakruti (Subak).
The programme began with a melodious musical presentation of songs by two groups in the play called as ‘Sutradhar’ and ‘Shaheer’ who gave a brief introduction of it.

The story revolved around a warrior named Sarjerav Shinde who wins wars and collects tax revenue for his king. Sticking to his job, when Sarjerav leaves for a long voyage to Kathewadi, his wife Janaki promises to be remain faithful to him and vows to complete three tasks given by him.
At Kathewadi, however, listening to the stories of the loyalty of Janaki, the king Joravarsingh along with Divanji, conspires to break Janaki’s vow when Sarjerav goes away on a task. But, the king’ plan fall flat as Janaki and her servant Mohana wittingly turn the game around.
With not a single dull moment, the lighthearted comic and musical drama succeeded in entertaining the audience throughout the show. The background music added to the magic.
Directed by Vijay Kenkre and written by Vyankatesh Madgulkar the play’s starcast had Mrunmayi Godbole, Esha Keskar, Lalit Prabhakar, Abhijit Khandekar and Nikhil Ratnaparkhi along with two talented singers Dhananjay Mhaskar and Siddhesh Jadhav.
Later, addressing the gathering, Barve said, “These amazing old plays have not been witnessed by my generation or the current one. These plays deserve to be popularized.”
