Nagpur: A fire at Vasudeo Nagar Metro Station on Saturday morning raised fresh concerns over safety standards in the Metro network. The incident occurred around 8.30 am, when smoke was seen emanating from the transformer unit at the station near Madhav Netralaya on Hingna Road.

Earlier reports suggested that the electrical panel caught fire, but a deputy general manager of MahaMetro later clarified that the blaze erupted in the transformer, not the panel. Coils inside the unit were completely gutted, resulting in losses of about Rs5 lakh. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, though a short circuit is suspected.
