Fertility conference on Saturday, Sunday

NAGPUR: Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) has emerged as the first main cause of infertility in women. It is a hormonal disorder common among adolescent girls and women of reproductive age.

“The exact cause of PCOS is unknown and also there is no cure for it but early detection and treatment can remove the infertility and help the woman conceive. It is a lifestyle related disease and hence weight loss may reduce the risk of long-term complications such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease,” said Dr

Laxmi Shrikhande

, an infertility expert and the main organizer of the ‘Master Class Infertility III’ conference to be held in city on Saturday and Sunday.

Dr Shrikhande said that the Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran from

London

will be conducting a workshop on ‘cardio-Tocography’ in which an equipment is used to measure the stress on the baby in the womb by recording the fetal heart rate. It can help prevent unnecessary caesarean section deliveries.

The international faculty also includes Dr

Luca Sabatini

and Dr Jytosna Pundir from London, and Dr Sanjay Prabhu from Doha and Dr

Ruma Chakraborty Bhargava

from Dubai.

A session will also be held to prepare doctors for the MRCOG examination and other training programmes available for Indian doctors at UK. The discussion topics also include sessions on genital tuberculosis, poor ovarian reserve and pelvic inflammatory disease.
