YAVATMAL: A family property dispute led to the murder of a cousin, and left his father in critical condition at the GMC in Yavatmal, on Tuesday evening.
SP Pavan Bansod said there was an old family property dispute between the families of Narendra Pali (65) and his nephew Suraj Pali (22), both residents of Sharada Chowk. On Tuesday, the dispute flared up when a bore well was being sunk on the disputed land.
The deceased, Rahul Narendra Pali (22), had allegedly rushed to the site with an iron rod while his father Narendra Pali was locked in a verbal dual with his nephew Suraj.
Suraj snatched the iron rod from Rahul and hit him on the head. Suraj also hit Narendra with the rod. Rahul collapsed and died instantly on the spot. Narendra Pali was seriously wounded and rushed to GMC, where his condition is stated to be ‘most critical’.
Suraj and his family fled after the incident, and the police have started a man hunt.
City police reached the murder site and conducted spot panchanama. The body of deceased Rahul was sent for post mortem at GMC. An offence was registered under section 302 of IPC and investigations have been started by PSO Pant.
SP Bansod and other top brass visited the spot and took stock of the situation. Bansod expressed confidence the cops would nab the fleeing accused shortly.
