Fadnavis couple income increases multifold in a decade, wife richer than Deputy CM
NAGPUR: On the fourth day of filing nominations in ensuing Maharashtra assembly polls, 991 aspirants filed their nominations, including several top politicians like deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis from Nagpur South-West, Krishna Khopde from Nagpur East, Atul Save from Aurangabad East, Sanjay Shirshat from Aurangabad West and Ram Shinde from Karjat Jamkhed. BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule skipped the ritual on Friday and is likely to file his nomination on Monday due to a weekend closure of collectorates. The Election Commission has received 1,288 applications since Tuesday.
Fadnavis submitted his nomination with pomp and show on Friday and a scrutiny of his poll affidavits of 2019 and 2024 revealed the deputy chief minister and his banker wife Amruta's income rose manifold over a decade. In 2014-15 fiscal, Fadnavis showed an income of Rs 1.24 lakh, while his wife had an income of Rs 18.27 lakh. This soared to Rs 38.73 lakh and Rs 79.30 lakh respectively in the 2023-24 fiscal.
Poll affidavits also reveal Fadnavis earned Rs1.66 crore between the 2019-20 and 2023-24 fiscals, while his wife earned Rs 5.05 crore in the same period. Fadnavis also has a loan worth Rs 62 lakh and has four pending criminal cases.
It also revealed Amruta has more income and assets than the deputy CM, and the couple grew richer by Rs 4.57 crore over five years, as per poll affidavits of 2019 and 2024. While the couple owns assets of Rs13.27 crore, including land and 1.35kg of gold of Rs 99 lakh, they currently do not own a car.
Poll affidavits also showed Amruta has a vast portfolio of investments in the share market and mutual funds, which clocked a significant jump in five years. In 2019, Amruta owned shares and mutual funds of Rs 2.33 crore, which rose to Rs 5.62 crore in 2024.
In 2019, Fadnavis had Rs 45.94 lakh in movable assets, while his wife owned Rs 3.39 crore of movable assets and the combined assets rose to Rs 7.52 crore by 2024. Similarly, Fadnavis had immovable assets worth Rs 3.78 crore, while his wife had Rs 99.39 lakh worth of immovable assets in 2019 and this rose to Rs 5.63crore for the couple in 5 years.
Fadnavis, who became chief minister in 2014, identifies himself as a social worker and a farmer, while his wife is a professional, as per poll affidavit. Intriguingly, Amruta earned significantly more than the deputy CM in last five years.
The poll affidavit also revealed Fadnavis, who completed his law degree in 1992, also completed a management diploma in Methods and Techniques of Project Management from Berlin University.
