Nagpur: A simmering power struggle within the Nagpur unit of the Congress party spilled into the open this week. On Saturday, rival factions reportedly clashed during the ongoing ‘Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan', a campaign to reorganise the party's local leadership ahead of future elections.Tensions flared at meetings held in Ravi Bhavan and Trimurti Nagar, where party-appointed observer Arun Yadav was assessing aspirants for the post of Nagpur city president. Several leaders, including former corporators, alleged they were deliberately blocked from meeting the observer, raising questions over transparency in the selection process. Sarfaraz Khan, a senior party leader, claimed he and others were denied entry despite being invited by the observer. "This was done to control selection process," he alleged, pointing to what he described as an attempt by current leadership to sideline dissenting voices.The confrontation reflects deeper factional divisions within the city unit, with a section of workers pushing for generational change. The discord was particularly visible during interactions with aspirants from West and South-West Nagpur constituencies, where rival groups again clashed over access to the observer.Yadav is expected to submit his report to the party high command in Delhi on April 15, a development that could prove decisive for the city unit's leadership structure.
