Nagpur: Mankapur Police nabbed Deepak Awle, a mastermind behind two major extortion cases, on Wednesday from Lavha village near Khadgaon. Awle and his gang were booked for two major extortion cases. Awle had extorted lakhs of rupees from a senior citizen by threatening him to involve in a rape case. In the recent case filed at Mankapur police station, Awle and his gang were booked for allegedly extorting a railway clerk of Rs3.70 lakh by threatening to book him in a rape case.
Police said Awle had asked a young woman to trap the railway clerk with her charms. Awle then caught both of them at a rented room in Mankapur area. Awle claimed that the young woman was his daughter and threatened the clerk to book him under molestation charges. Police had arrested three members of the gang, including two women, but Awle was absconding.
On May 6, Awle and his gang were slapped with MCOCA charges. Mankapur police team headed by police inspector PN Bhatkar under the guidance of Sanjay Latkar, DCP Zone II, ACP Pachpaoli, R D Taywade, then launched a manhunt for Awle.
Police said Awle had taken shelter at Narsala, Saoner, Aurangabad and later Wardha before he could be nabbed at Lavha.
