Elders share special moments, give gifts to birthday ‘boys’

Nagpur: In an innovative way, members of Jyeshtha Nagarik Mandal (South), all above 60 years of age, celebrated birthday of those born in May and June, at Samaj Bhavan, Sneh Nagar, on Tuesday. The birthday ‘boys’ were also given

gifts

by the organizers.

A programme titled ‘Speak something on your life’ saw members sharing their special moments in life and also problems such as pension and health.

Arun Radke, secretary of the mandal, highlighted the aim of the organization and said that solving problems of senior citizens is the priority. “In this phase of life,

elders

, including me, feel lonely and therefore need constant support and love. We encourage members, give them a platform to express themselves and share their feelings on various issues. This boosts their morale and help them look at life with positivity.”

The organization regularly holds health and yoga camps and annual gathering to ensure that members are engaged in constructive activities.

Manohar Kharche, a member of the organization, said that it is a matter of concern that differences between human beings are increasing with every passing day. As a result, there is no

emotional attachment

with each other that often leads to loneliness. Fulfilling those desires which were only thought of can give some contentment. But the problem of those whose children are away are different as distance is a problem. But life has to go on, he added.

President AL Alkari, members Captain Yashwant Gaikwad and Bhaskar Raut, besides others, attended the programme.

The organization, formed in 1988, has 350 members from south Nagpur areas like Sneh Nagar and Narendra Nagar.
