Elderly Woman Killed in Tiger Attack in Chandrapur

Chandrapur: A 65-year-old woman was killed in a tiger attack near Gunjewahi village in Sindewahi taluka on Monday. The deceased, identified as Vachhala Ishwar Wadgure, was collecting mahua flowers when the tiger suddenly attacked. Eyewitnesses said the animal pounced, grabbed her by the neck, and dragged her a short distance. She died on the spot despite the villagers' attempts to intervene.Police and forest department teams reached the scene and sent the body to Sindewahi rural hospital. An immediate relief of ₹25,000 was provided to the family.The incident has sparked panic in Gunjewahi and nearby villages. Authorities have intensified patrolling and urged residents to avoid venturing alone into forested areas. Surveillance has also been stepped up, with six trap cameras and one live camera installed to monitor the tiger's movement.So far this year, 13 people have died in wildlife attacks in the district, including 12 in tiger encounters. In 2025, Chandrapur recorded 47 fatalities linked to predator attacks.
