‘Ek Tamanna...’ showcases different hues of monsoon
Nagpur: Spectators were ‘drenched’ in a colourful programme of dance, music and poetry, titled Ek Tamanna Sawan Ki’, held at Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Sitabuldi, on Tuesday.
Organized by Antrang Mahila Chetna Manch, the programme encompassed almost all that is associated with monsoon. Sunita Gupta, Shagufta Kaji and Swarnima Sinha were the organizers. Programme director Esha Chatterjee conducted the event. The organization performs an event on the theme of monsoon related songs every year.
Saroj Vyas recited her poetry while Mitali Kohad, the youngest performer of the evening, sang a melodious cover of ‘Rim jhim kahani se’ and ‘Chhoti si kahani si.’ Shalu Batra gave a power-packed dance performance on a medley of songs like ‘Ladki bhigi bhagi si’ and ‘Chak dhoom dhoom’.
Singer Chandana Paul and Shyamli Bagchi had the audience singing with them with every song. Paul presented melodies like ‘Rim jhim ke yeh pyare pyare geet’ and ‘O sajna barkha bahar aayi’ while Bagchi crooned to her inner Lata Mangeshkar with ‘Main to tum sang nain mila ke’ and ‘Pawan deewani’.
Shubhra Bose beautifully presented ‘Jaa re kare badra’ and ‘Sona kare jhil mil jhil mil’. Bharti Rawal performed a touching monologue on the hardships of being a mother. Her performance, full of sentiments and tears, moved the audience.
Shivani, with her graceful and expressive dance on ‘Aaya saawan jhumke’, had the audience tapping their feet.
The programme culminated with Rupa Chatterjee’s gripping performance on superhit song ‘Pinga’, with the audience giving once more calls.
At the outset, ‘Lady of the year’ award was presented to Jassi Dalorkar who has been an active member of the organization. ‘Sakhi Saawni’ award went to Chanda Phulsande. The award for beautiful skin went to Aarti Gupta.
