Depressed youth found dead, cops suspect suicide

Nagpur: A 20-year-old youth undergoing depression was found seriously injured at an under construction site, near Mhada Colony, Kamgar Nagar on Tuesday morning. Labourers rushed him to nearby Mayo hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police surmise it to be a case of suicide. The deceased identified as Yogesh Warudkar was a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Tandapeth.Warudkar, the youngest of three siblings, was a second year student of Bachelors of Computer Science.
His father, Manohar, is a retired central government employee. A relative said that since his Std X board exams, Warudkar had been battling depression. “He used to remain lost and silent. He was taken to a doctor who diagnosed him with depression and suicidal tendencies,” the relative said. Relatives said that Warudkar’s elder sister was also a patient of depression since 10 years.
It was learnt that Warudkar had left home alone many times and would frequently talk about taking his own life. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His family members said that considering his medical condition, his father never forced him to study.
Warudkar left home on Monday morning with his lunch box, a water bottle and medicines.
Since he didn’t return, the family members first searched at all his friends’ place and had planned to report a missing person complaint the next morning. However, before they could call the police, the family received a call from police on Tuesday morning about Warudkar’s body had been found.
Police told that through initial investigation, it has been learnt that Warudkar had jumped from the third floor of the construction site. His identity card and medicine prescription revealed his identity that helped police contact his family. Police said that though Warudkar was suffering from depression since many years, he had not attempted suicide ever.
“Investigation will let know that what prompted him to end his life suddenly. We are probing whether he had fight with his friends or anyone from family,” a policeman said.
