NAGPUR: Yashodhara Nagar police on Saturday booked a 24-year-old woman for abetment to
suicide
by her mother-in-law. The accused identified as Shweta Bujbaile, 24, was reportedly ill-treating and insulting her mother-in-law Chanda. She has been booked under sections 306 and 504 of the
Indian Penal Code
(IPC).
According to police, Shweta allegedly used to
harass Chanda over family disputes
. Unable to digest the insults, Chanda, a resident of Binaki Mangalwari,
set self afire
on April 1 after a quarrel with her daughter-in-law. Chanda was rushed to Mayo hospital where she died during treatment on April 2.
Police had then registered a case of accidental death. However, during investigation it came to fore that all was not well between Chanda and Shweta and the fateful day also the daughter-in-law had insulted the elderly woman. Following this revelation, police booked Shweta.
Chanda’s husband and her son both have claimed before cops that Shweta regularly used to harass the deceased.
