Datke suggests four more floors in the new 500-bed medical complex at IGGMCH
Nagpur: Newly-elected MLA Pravin Datke conducted a site inspection of various infrastructure development works under way at Indira Gandhi Govt Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) in his Nagpur Central assembly constituency on Tuesday. He suggested adding four more floors to the upcoming seven-storey 500-bed medical complex.
He also dedicated the renovated maternity ward to the public. The renovation aligns with the state govt's ambitious ‘Lakshya' scheme. State-of-the-art equipment essential for maternity services was procured, ensuring these enhancements are exceedingly beneficial for patient care, a press note issued by the IGGMCH said.
The BJP MLA also summoned an urgent meeting with the Public Works Department concerning the institution. The Dean, Dr Ravi Chavan, was directed to promptly present details on all constructions to accelerate progress.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 500-bed new modern medicine complex and other infrastructural development works worth Rs338 crore at IGGMCH in February.
IGGMCH, also known as Mayo Hospital, is undergoing its first-ever major revamp. It was originally started as a district civil hospital in 1872 on sprawling 40-acre prime land next to the railway station.
Besides the 500-bed medicine complex worth Rs145 crore, new buildings for OPD, RMO, UG, PG hostels, nursing college, nursing hostels, and allied services, along with overall beautification of the campus, would give it a much-needed overhaul.
Architect Ashfaque Ahmed and his son Aseem, known for several high-profile projects, are executing the entire plan.
The medical complex's bed capacity is likely to be augmented to 600 after the addition of four more floors. Dean Dr Chavan, head of the obstetrics department Dr Sangita Ramteke, Prof Dr Alka Patankar, Medical Superintendent Dr Nitin Shende, and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Sagar Pandey were present during Datke's visit.
Considering the forthcoming increase in bed capacity, the MLA advised submitting a proposal for the recruitment of doctors and auxiliary staff. He also guaranteed his personal intervention regarding this matter with chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
A fresh proposal for requisite equipment for patient care should be submitted to the District Planning Committee, Datke said. The MLA assured requisite support to facilitate vehicles/ambulances for patient transportation to and from the institution.
