Rajesh tried to escape, but the public overpowered him. During his search, eight notes of Rs 100 denomination were recovered and he was handed over to the Kalamna police.
Police said that during interrogation, they learnt that Rajesh was a former MSEDCL staffer and he claimed to have been suspended from service recently. The police also said that Rajesh claimed to be a resident of Wadi, but the cops were ascertaining this. The police are trying to find out whether he was part of a major ring of counterfeit note dealers and whether he had any links with the mafia.
During his questioning, Rajesh reportedly told the cops that he had received five of the notes from one Santosh, a resident of Seoni in Madhya Pradesh, during Holi. He claimed innocence in the case. But the cops are making more inquiries.
