NAGPUR: Looking into the problem of retired employees getting their pension delayed, the Nagpur division of Central Railway has decided to streamline the disbursal mechanism.
"Soon, the division will see to it that pension pay orders, which are presently readied in Mumbai, are prepared at the division level so that retirees start getting pension from the second month of their retirement," stressed Sunil Kumar Agrawal, divisional railway manager, at the 'pension adalat' held at Nagpur office.

Agrawal lauded the efforts of the personnel department for issuing pension cheques to the legitimate beneficiaries.
"This can be guaged from the fact that thousands of employees have retired but only 54 cases camp up in the 'pension adalat' and cheques were issued to 37 beneficiaries," he remarked.
Addressing the gathering, Manjulla Saxena, senior divisional personnel officer (Sr DPO), said relatives of running staff who retired from 1973 to 1988 have been paid mileage arrears. However, the department will need details to claim 12% interest liable to be paid on this amount. "Once we get the details, the remaining amount will also be disbursed soon," promised Saxena. The Sr DPO further said that on the directives from the Railway Board, the administration has issued orders to the nationalised banks to pay Rs 100 towards medical allowance to pensioners who apply for claiming the amount.
"Any problem in disbursement of this amount will be looked after by the personnel department," Saxena asserted. Meanwhile, the administration has started a helpline (0712-2548183) for providing details to the pensioners
