Couple held for killing 3-yr-old girl

police teams on Monday arrested a couple for allegedly murdering a three-year-old girl from Kurha Dumne village under

Arni police

station. The body was recovered from a water tank in a decomposed state.

Arni police had received a missing complaint on December 20 from one Avinash Prakash Chole about his daughter Manvi. “The toddler was kidnapped when she was playing in the backyard of her house,” said SP Dr Dilip Patil Bhujbal.

The SP set up four special teams which camped in Arni. Sniffer dogs led the police to kitchen of Deepali alias Pushpa Gopal Chole. Police took Deepali and her husband Gopal into custody. The SP said that Avinash and Gopal are cousins.

Bhujbal said it would be premature to disclose the motive behind the murder. “We have zeroed in on four main reasons,” he said.

“On interrogation Deepali confessed to have kidnapping and killing the girl on December 20. The body was kept in a drum. She couldn’t dispose of the body due to strict police vigil,” the SP said.

Later, the couple allegedly shifted the body to the water tank in their backyard. The police dog led the cops to the tank from where the body was recovered and sent for postmortem.

Arni police have registered a murder case and investigating further.

The couple will be produced before the court for obtaining PCR.
