Beginning with liquor and gambling dens, Sharma has also been raiding premises of shady resorts and restaurants, where immoral activities are encouraged. The latest raid is a continuation of such drives against antisocial activities.
Sources said that the resort began operating as a dance bar around a year ago. The practice was discontinued later, but Mumbai-based women have started coming to the place again in the last couple of months. Rural police sources said that this was the first police action here. The resort, located within Kuhi police jurisdiction, was becoming popular among clients from Nagpur. Police said that most of the clients rounded up were from the city.
Sharma said the police had kept the place under vigil for some time. He took the decision to raid the place himself after a reliable source relayed the information that girls had started performing on the floor. "I reached the place in a private vehicle and went inside along with two young constables in civil dress. The girls were crooning away on the floor and there were substantial numbers of customers," said Sharma.
He added, "Suddenly, the people inside the bar realized that something was amiss. They started to sneak away. I got up from the seat and disclosed my identity, kicking off the raiding procedure," he said.
Sharma had already alerted the local crime branch, and assistant police inspector HS Yadav and others aided him. The people rounded up were taken to Kuhi police station before being booked. The bar owner Nagesh Sultan too has been in arrested.
