Cops crack 12 burglaries, three arrested
NAGPUR: The crime branch has cracked 12 cases of
The accused have been identified as Kapil Gawre (25), Mohammad Shafiq (22), and Sheikh Sohail. All three have several offences registered against them, including dacoity and attempt to murder, at different police stations.
During a press conference on Saturday, police announced the arrest of the three and displayed the recovered valuables, including gold and silver ornaments, TV and four weapons worth Rs2.83 lakh.
Police said Gawre, a resident of Gittikhadan who is on bail in an attempt to murder case, is the mastermind behind the burglaries. Ever since Gawre received bail seven months ago, he has been targeting houses and flats at night, sometimes even in the morning.
Shafiq and Sohail used to sell the goods stolen by Gawre, police said.
Senior PI Jagvendra Rajput of crime branch unit-III said, “While investigating the cases, we understood that the burglars are history-sheeters. We laid a trap and nabbed Gawre, who latter spilled the beans about his accomplices.”
It is also learnt that Gawre had a girlfriend on whom he used to spend the money.
“We had appointed four teams to nab the accused, but he was continuously changing his location. Finally, we nabbed him on August 15,” Rajput added.
Sources said Sohail and Shafiq were friends and came in contact with Gawre in jail. The accused had sold and even mortgaged some of the gold valuables at various shops.
Cops are trying to find out if the accused had committed more burglaries. They are also investigating from where Gawre received sharp weapons and what was he planning to do with them.
