‘Clean Wardha’ campaign launched to mark Gandhi’s death anniv

South Central Zone Cultural Centre, district administration and Sewagram Ashram pratishthan jointly launched Clean Wardha campaign from Bapu Kuti and organized various other programmes to mark the 66th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Sewagram on Friday.

Wardha: South Central Zone Cultural Centre, district administration and Sewagram Ashram pratishthan jointly launched Clean Wardha campaign from Bapu Kuti and organized various other programmes to mark the 66th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Sewagram on Friday.
Guardian minister Sudhir Mungantiwar launched the Clean Wardha campaign while MP Ramdas Tadas, inaugurated the cultural programme.

. All four MLAs of the district and officers of district administration along with hundreds of citizens of Wardha and Gandhian activists were present on the occasion. Devotional songs were sung by noted singer Anuradha Paudwal.
Mungantiwar and other guests planted 79 sandalwood trees to mark the 79th year of Gandhi’s arrival at Sewagram Ashram where he spent more than 12 years and coordinated his movement in the country. Mungantiwar, Paudwal, SCZCC’s Dr Piyush Kumar, collector N Navin Sona, MLAs and other district officers cleaned the ashram gate.
Informing the gathering that SCZCC has adopted Wardha and Sewagram, its centre head Dr Piyush Kumar announced the launch of sculpture and design competition to mark the occasion. Selected arts will get a reward of Rs1 lakh and the sculpture will be a part of beautification of Wardha and Sewagram under Sewagram Development Project. “When you enter Wardha you do not feel that this is Gandhi city. After these sculptures are displayed throughout city, it will create Gandhian atmosphere.”
Speaking to media persons Mungantiwar said, “In upcoming budget I will try to get more funds for Sewagram Development Project.”
