Nagpur: The next phase of groundwork for the Census of India 2027 has begun in the district, with training of nearly 9,000 enumerators, evenly split between rural and urban areas, rolling out from Thursday. This exercise was initiated after the completion of charge officer-level training sessions to ensure field-level preparedness ahead of the house-listing phase.
A senior district administration official said the training is being conducted unit-wise across talukas and civic zones, in batches of around 50 participants at multiple centres. It will continue till May 8. The sessions focus on field protocols, digital data collection and house-listing procedures to ensure readiness for the door-to-door exercise.

Of the 53 charge officers designated to oversee operations across the district, 43 will manage rural areas, while 10 were assigned to 10 zones under the NMC. Each charge officer will coordinate multiple enumeration blocks and supervise field teams within respective jurisdictions.
Over 4,500 enumerators are expected to be deployed in rural areas, with a similar number engaged within city limits. Authorities added citizens will also have option of self-enumeration between May 1-15 through an online portal, allowing households to submit details in advance before field verification.
