NAGPUR: Students of the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) who opted for the school exam this year find themselves in a fix over Maharashtra government's stand of not admitting them in junior colleges. The forms for centralized admission process (CAP) were distributed from Wednesday across the city and only
CBSE students who gave the board exams will be allowed to apply. Working president of the Centralized Admission Committee (CAC), Dr Baban Taywade, said, "Only students who appeared for board exam are allowed.
At the time of submission of admission form, the students will have to submit a written undertaking from their respective schools that he/she appeared for board exam".
Most of the students that TOI spoke to thought that the rule is more of an imposition and deprived them the option of changing the board. The majority view was that the Maharashtra government should change its new diktat on admissions for CBSE school exams.
Ritika Jain (name changed), a student who appeared for her school exam, said, "Now I am so helpless and don't know how to go about the entire situation. I did not know of this rule. It has to be realized that the careers of many students are at stake if this rule is not scrapped. Why should these students face discrimination? We are not in any way lesser than those who opted for board exams."
Ishaan Tiwari, a student of Bhavan's Civil Lines, said that students can have a change of mind so this rule does not stand to any logic. He said, "I am against this rule. It is unfair to all who opted for school exams."
Raghav Chopda (name changed) said, "It is like segregation. Why should a demarcation be made? After all, in the school evaluation exam, the question paper was set by the board and chance of a biased evaluation is bleak."
The deadlock continues as Maharashtra government has refused to back down from its stand and the CBSE maintaining silence over the issue.
