‘Burmania’ leaves lasting impact on music lovers
Nagpur: There was a time when lilting tunes of RD Burman made people crazy. His songs continue to haunt even today as was witnessed during the musical programme ‘Burmania’, organized by Bharat Rang Kala and Pancham Car Rentals at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall on Sunday.
Talented young singers gave their best and recreated the magic of RD to regale the audience. The proceeds of the programme organized to mark the 80th birth anniversary of Burman were donated to Sweekar Sanstha, an organization working for autistic, mentally retarded and disabled children.
‘Tumne mujhe dekha’, the first song of the event presented by Mahendra Manke, set the tone of the musical. This was followed by Pranay Parate singing ‘Jeevan mein tu darna nahi’ and Nikita Polkondwar ‘One two cha cha cha’. Another kid Arjun Thakur presented a tune from movie ‘Khote Sikkay’, which was originally sung by RD.
Songs like Jidhar dekhu tasveer teri’, ‘Bahon mein chale aa’, ‘O mere sona re sona re’, ‘Hum dono do premi’, Mehbooba mehbooba’ and ‘Hoga tumse pyara kaun’ entertained the audience.
Vijay Katkar won the hearts of the audience by perfectly creating the sound of songs like ‘Mere saamne wali khidki mein’, ‘Chura liya hai tumne jo dilko’ and ‘Hoga tumse pyara kaun’ with the help of a hair comb and a piece of glass.
The other singers included Kishor Naidu, Rasika Karmalekar, Arundhati Rambhad, Rachna Pathak, Raghunandan Parsatwar and Nitin Ghade.
Earlier, a cake was cut to celebrate the anniversary of Burman. Information was given about the organization working for the disabled children.
