NAGPUR: A gang of five bookies was busted by Hudkeshwar police on Tuesday. The gang, operating from the residence of special executive officer Ajay Nimje at Kalpataru Nagar, was nabbed red-handed while accepting bets on a T20 match being played between Perth and Adelaide in Australia.
Ajay was arrested along with Harish Nimje, Mohd Sajid Mohd Yusuf, Sayyed Imdad and Rohit Bhedekar from the den, which was stormed by Hudkeshwar police’s detection branch wing after receiving a tip-off regarding the operations.

Police have seized six mobile phones, television, laptops and other valuables. Cash Rs 3,500 was also seized during the action. Senior inspector Raja Pawar of Hudkeshwar police station said that the police had been trying to locate the gang for the last few days. He also said that Sajid, a resident of Motha Tajbagh, was the mastermind behind the racket.
Hardened burglar arrested
Hudkeshwar police have also nabbed a hardened burglar, identified as Kuldeep Singh Darshan Singh, alias Juni, for his alleged involvement in several thefts in houses across the city and elsewhere. PI Pawar said that Juni was trapped by his team from a village near Bela in the rural areas after following the offender for several days. “We had almost nabbed him at Talegaon in Wardha around a month ago, but he fled after abandoning a newly purchased bike,” he said. The bike had been seized by Hudkeshwar police.

It’s learnt that police have now recovered another new bike from Juni, who has been committing crimes since childhood. His father, Darshan, has also been booked in some of the offences for aiding him.
Juni is basically a resident of Pachpaoli. “He had been purchasing high-end bikes with the money received from burglaries,” said Pawar. Apart from city police, crime branch had also been looking for Juni as his name had surfaced in connection with several burglaries in the city.
PI Pawar claimed that Juni had always been getting advantage of being a minor, but now police would take stringent measures against him as he has attained adulthood.
