Bomb threats spark searches at district court, passport office
Nagpur: Police conducted extensive searches on Wednesday at the district court in Civil Lines and the passport office in Mankapur after both institutions received bomb threat emails. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) carried out thorough inspections at the two locations, but no explosive devices or suspicious objects were found.According to officials, an email was sent on Wednesday to the official email addresses of the district court and passport office from an ID identified as "Kanimozhi / The Vidya@hotmail.com." The message claimed that a cyanide squad had entered the district court premises and warned that the court would be blown up in a bomb blast.
Upon receiving the alert, senior police inspector Amol Deshmukh of Sadar police station, along with BDDS personnel, rushed to the court. The squad conducted a detailed search of the entire premises for nearly three hours. However, no bomb-like objects or suspicious individuals were discovered.Around the same time, a similar bomb threat email was received by the passport office. Senior PI Harish Kalsekar of Mankapur police station and the BDDS team carried out a two-hour search of the office premises, but nothing suspicious was found there either. Following the incidents, Sadar police have registered a case against the unidentified sender of the threatening emails. This is not the first such incident. In December 2025, an email threatening to blow up Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court was sent to the registrar's office from an email ID named "Madras Tiger." Earlier, in March, a person identified as Prakash made a similar threat via a phone call to the police control room, warning of a bomb blast at the high court's Nagpur bench.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Holi wishes, messages and quotes !
