Biking taught life lessons: Aditya Raj Kapoor

NAGPUR: Traversing countries across the globe on a motorbike, that too solo, is not just about thrill but the experience of a lifetime as one gets to understand different shades of nature, values people hold close to their heart and the lessons it teaches not found in any textbook, said actor

Aditya Raj Kapoor

, on Thursday.

Sharing his experiences in the last leg of his tour at a programme organized by Rotary Club of Nagpur at Chitnavis Centre, Aditya, son of the legendary actor Shammi Kapoor, said he took to the biking expedition as he wanted to explore the world. Aditya said he handed over his business to his son a few months after his father passed away. “I took a break from the commitments and responsibilities on hand as I always believed that there is more to life than the mundane things.”

Kapoor flew with his bike ‘Triumph’ to Russia from where he started his journey. He visited more than 15 countries, including Myanmar, Russia and Indonesia, in his 10-month-journey.

The journey was joyous for the first four days, he said, as he mingled with people in the regions from where he passed through and tried to understand their way of life and beliefs. However, he got the first shock soon when he found that one set of the bike keys was lost somewhere. There was no question of undertaking a search operation. A panicky Kapoor immediately contacted the

Indian Embassy

.

“The staff there asked me to better continue with the second set and told about the problems I might encounter in preparing duplicate keys,” Kapoor said. He then informed his friend back home who suggested to prepare duplicate keys. But this was not to be. As happens in movies, he found the ‘missing’ keys in the inner pocket of his coat. It was time to heave a sigh of relief, he told the smiling gathering.

As the Kapoors are known foodies, Aditya took with him extra luggage that included clothes, and food packets during the trip. “But I soon realized that it was becoming a burden and gave it to the local people. I was now free to move around without difficulty,” he said.

Kapoor said he would just go out and click photographs with the people of different countries. It was amazing to know about different cultures and traditions they have, he added.

“The expedition taught me many new things and expanded my horizon,” he said.

Those who shared the dais were president of Rotary Club of Nagpur Rina Sinha, president-elect

Kapil Bahiri

and secretary Jerestine Watchmaker.
