NAGPUR: Four teenage students in Nagpur, Maharashtra, found themselves in trouble with the police after attempting to film a prank kidnapping video for social media. The incident occurred on Monday morning in Pratap Nagar area.
The students, two of whom recently appeared for Class 12 exams and the other two preparing for NEET, were detained for trying to kidnap a Class 11 boy named Aadesh 17-year-old from Chandrapur district, currently resides in Nagpur with a friend while preparing for the JEE exam.
As Aadesh and his friends Yash and Vedant were walking to class at 6:45 am, a white car approached them. Three young boys from the car tried to force Aadesh into the vehicle, but they fled when his friends intervened. Aadesh reported the incident to his teacher, who took him to the police station to file a complaint.
The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched an investigation after reviewing CCTV footage. One of the culprits, Sushant, aged 18, was identified and detained, leading to the apprehension of his accomplices - Shreyash, Yash, and Arnav, all 18 years old.
During questioning, the teenagers admitted to attempting a prank video for social media. Their parents, shocked by the revelation, requested leniency from the police. The teenagers promised not to repeat such actions in the future.
Subsequently, the police released them with a warning notice. The incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of irresponsible behavior in the age of social media. It also highlights the importance of parental supervision and guidance in shaping responsible online conduct among teenagers.
