According to the complaint, the reels spread misleading information about the Yogita Thakre death case from 2009, falsely claiming it was a murder and alleging coercion. The reels also contained objectionable remarks about Gadkari and his family, the complaint stated. The complaint stated that despite the CID having given a clean chit and the court having closed the matter, content was being circulated to tarnish the reputation of the Union minister and his family.
Police have invoked charges under the Information Technology Act and for defamation through false allegations.
