Asked to prove identity, MLA leaves CP's office in a huff
NAGPUR: MLA Victor Freitas, who had come to the police commissioners office on Monday to attend an informal meeting called by city police chief Praveen Dixit to discuss issues relating to the forthcoming festive season with citizens representatives, was prevented from entering the premises.
After being asked to identify himself, Freitas, who arrived for the meeting in an autorickshaw, walked away in a huff.

Whats not clear is whether Freitas was unhappy on being asked to produce an identity card or he was stopped as he was travelling in a auto.
When TOI contacted Freitas, he did not want to comment. But, its learnt that he had a heated argument with the cops on being asked for an identication. Freitas was of the opinion that since he had come on an invitation, though verbal, from the police commissioner, he need not identify himself.
Dixit sent deputy inspector general of police, region, Madhukar Gavit and assistant commissioner of police Madhuri Godse to resolve the issue and placate Freitas. But, Freitas had left CPs office before the two reached the gate.
Checking at the gate has been a regular practice. The security guards were just performing their duty. They could not identify the traveller in the autorickshaw, said Gavit.
The security at the CP office has been recently revamped, with guards at both entry gates and CCTVs re-installed inside the office too.
