API, mother booked for wife's suicide

NAGPUR: Wadi police have booked assistant police inspector (API) Bharat Shinde and his mother for abetting his wife Vidya Shinde, 23, to commit suicide a year ago. Shinde had hanged herself to death at her residence at Unconventional Operational Training Centre (UOTC) quarters, Surabardi, on August 14, 2013.
The complaint was lodged by Vidya's brother Vinod Maderkar.He claimed that Shinde and his mother Vimal tortured his sister for dowry. "Vidya took the extreme step due to the unbearable torture by her husband and mother-in-law," Maderkar told cops.
Vidya had committed suicide a week after Shinde was posted as API at UOTC. He was earlier posted as PSI at Gadchiroli.
Police had initially registered a case of accidental death but later booked both the accused for abetment of suicide.
