NAGPUR: The Indian Council of Social Welfare (ICSW) organized a workshop on adoption procedure on Saturday at the ICWS office at Kasturba Bhavan, Bajaj Nagar.
The major objective of the workshop was to focus on adoption practices and aim to upgrade the quality of services rendered by the agencies.
“This workshop was primarily conducted to help adoption agencies implement the new guidelines given by CARA (Central Adoption Resource Agency) effectively in all the 17 institutions working for Vidarbha Legal Adoption.

The biggest problem faced by the placement agencies currently is that they don’t have a proper admissions of children. The difficulties being faced to implement the act could have been avoided if CARA had taken social workers’ suggestions consideration while passing the act,” said Pranali Khondekar.
“It is very important to have a proper study of the house before the adoption procedure takes place. It’s not about visiting the house but also observing the atmosphere. The few vital things to keep a check on are how is the marital relationship of the parents? Will they be able to support the child financially? What is their status in the society? Are both the parents going to accept the child?“ said Medha Pundik.
Agents should also maintain a follow up report to find out how the child is adjusting. “Post placement follow up reports are related to pre and post adoption comparison.
The main purpose is to secure the welfare of the child and to keep an account of it for a minimum of two years as mentioned in the law,” said Pallavi Padole.
