NAGPUR: Considering the skewed sex ratios in the country, any method used to spread the message to save the girl child is good. Singer
Aniruddha Joshi used his imagination for this purpose.
Utilizing his singing talent to take up the issue of
female foeticide, he organized a programme ‘Beti Bachao’, around the international women’s day to bring home the alarming acts being practised to get rid of the girl child.
Through an audio-visual presentation, punctuated with songs and small chats delivered by invited guests, Joshi drove home the importance of a girl child.
“It is not India alone, even China that has a strict government policy on birth control has lots of crimes being done to get rid of girl child,” he said.
Terming the laws prevalent to check the menace of sex determination and female infanticide as adequate, advocate Bhanudas Kulkari said, “The MTP Act of 1971 and the 1994 Act for pre-determination of sex are very stringent. In the last three years strict implementation of the these has ensured a reduction in such heinous practices.”
What further added credence to the theme was the felicitations of parents of girl child.
