Nagpur: Meritorious service ensured President's Police Medals for seven personnel from Nagpur district, including
CRPF dy inspector general, three police officers, two home guards and a prison havaldar. Union home ministry announced the medals on eve of Republic Day on Sunday.
The awardees are CRPF deputy inspector general, Prashant Jambholkar; additional superintendent of police, Anti-Corruption Bureau Vijay Mahulkar; sub-divisional police officer, Katol, Parag Pote; police inspector, Communication and Information Technology Divn, Rural Police, Kailash Barabhai; Platoon Naik, home guard NM Poddali; section leader squad Gangadhar Urkude and prison havaldar Raju Hate.
Jambholkar has worked in sensitive areas including Jammu-Kashmir, Northeast India and Chhattisgarh. He has served in the National Security Guard, known as Black Cat Commandos, and has also served the Rapid Action Force, Cobra Battalion and the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
He was previously awarded the police medal for meritorious service, Hard Area Service Medal, Antarctic Security Medal and the United Nations Peacekeeping Service Medal. He is known for leadership while staying on the frontline and is recognised as a Special Officer in CRPF for modern strategies.
Mahulkar joined police force as sub-inspector in 1993. While serving in rural police, he busted inter-state gangs and seized ganja worth crores. He has been honoured with the state govt's Best Detection Recovery, 2 UN medals and the Director General of Police's commendation.
Pote, who started as a sub-inspector in 1995, did remarkable work in Maoist-affected Gadchiroli. During this time, he was awarded Special Police Service Medal. While working in local crime branch in Yavatmal & Wardha, he detected many serious crimes. He also did notable work in economic offences wing at Nagpur Commissionerate.
In 1998, Barabhai joined as assistant sub-inspector or radio mechanic in the Communication and Information Technology Division of the police department. He was honoured with the Director General of Police's commendation last year for outstanding work. He served 13 years in Maoist-affected Gadchiroli. In 2012, he received the Special Seva Medal and in 2015 the Internal Security Medal.
Hate received President's Correctional Service Medal for distinguished service. He was also honoured with President's Police Medal in 2018.
