65% of power consumers in Nagpur circle opt for online bill payments

Nagpur: In a strong push towards digital transformation, the Nagpur circle of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) recorded a significant rise in online electricity bill payments. As of April 2025, 65% of low-tension power consumers in the circle paid their bills through digital platforms provided by the utility.According to official data, 12.98 lakh consumers paid a cumulative total of Rs229.06 crore in electricity bills last month. Of these, 8.47 lakh consumers paid Rs222 crore using MSEDCL's website, mobile app, QR codes, and MahaPowerPay platform. The digital payment rate represents an 11% year-on-year increase compared to April 2024.Nagpur district led the shift with 67.7% of consumers — amounting to 7.19 lakh users — paying Rs194.5 crore online. In Wardha district, 56.39% of consumers — approximately 1.27 lakh conumers — paid a total of Rs27.5 crore using online channels.Divisions such as Butibori, Congress Nagar, Civil Lines, Umred, Gandhibagh, Mahal, Mauda, and Katol in Nagpur, along with Hinganghat in Wardha, reported over 60% adoption of online payment systems.MSEDCL attributes this positive trend to its customer-friendly digital services, which include multiple payment methods such as UPI, debit cards, payment wallets, net banking, and QR code scanning. Except for credit card transactions, all digital modes are free of service charges.As an added incentive, low-tension consumers receive a 0.25% monthly discount (up to Rs500) when paying online. Additionally, the company introduced a ‘Lucky Digital Customer' scheme, offering smartphones, smartwatches, and other prizes to randomly selected online payers.All online transactions are secured under the provisions of the RBI's Payment and Settlement Act, 2007, and customers receive SMS receipts confirming successful payments, said MSEDCL.Encouraged by the digital surge, MSEDCL has appealed to all consumers in Nagpur circle to avail of the safe, convenient, and rewarding online bill payment options.
