4 Nagpur temples bar entryto those in ‘indecent’ attire

Nagpur: Four prominent temples in Nagpur district on Friday announced they would be implementing a dress code for people entering these religious places starting Saturday (May 27). The decision comes close on the heels of a similar order at the Tulja Bhavani temple in Tuljapur getting withdrawn after protests.The four temples include Gopalkrishna Mandir at Gorakshan Sabha campus in Dhantoli, Sankatmochan Hanuman Mandir in Belori, Devguru Brihaspati Mandir in Chauki (Kanholibara), and Durga Mata Mandir at Hill Top.Prasanna Paturkar, trustee of Gorakshan Mandir, said that a board mentioning the dress code has already been put up at the temple. “Do not enter the temple wearing revealing, provocative, indecent and inappropriate attire. Adhere to the Indian culture,” the board reads. Trustees of the four temples, along with Sunil Ghanwat, coordinator of Maharashtra Temple Federation, held a press conference on Friday. “The Federation has decided to introduce a dress code in these temples as per Indian culture. This is the beginning and we are in discussions with other temples. A statewide decision is also coming,” said Ghanwat.
