26 bombshells recovered from building site in Nagpur

NAGPUR: City police were left baffled after more than two dozens of dormant bombshells were unearthed from an under-construction site at Shastri Nagar near Telephone Exchange Chowk earlier this week. The bombshells have been sent to Kamptee cantonment for getting them scrutinized for their possible origin. The 26 bombshells of varying sizes, with length between two-and-half feet to three feet, were discovered by joint efforts of Lakadganj police and Bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) after being tipped off by SNDL workers who had been engaged in digging work at the site to erect a transformer.
It’s learnt that the place was earlier in possession of a scrap dealer named Agrawal. The place was later handed over to Deepak Shrawane who is still the owner. Shrawane had given a private developer to initiate a construction project at the site. The SNDL workers were carrying out digging work at the site when they came across the explosives which had rusted.
Senior PI SB Mane of Lakadganj police station said the explosives were present around four to four-and-a-half feet below the ground. “We feel that the scrap dealer had procured the dormant shells but could not dispose them of. The shells may have been probably buried under the ground before the scrap dealer shifted out. We are trying to trace the earlier occupant,” said Mane.
In an earlier incident last month, Jaripatka police have recovered 13 swords from a house at Kapil Nagar under mysterious circumstances. The sharp swords of different sizes were packed in three sacks and were found at the residence of a widow who mostly stayed alone. Jaripatka police, which had registered offence against unidentified person, are yet to crack the case.
