had on September 24 directed UoM to stop the process, and sought a report on approvals taken for the recruitment within three days. The college, however, went ahead with selection. The second round of selection, which began on October 6, will go on for three days.

R

Somashekar

told TOI that the department has taken serious note of the defiance to its order. The same has been communicated to the additional chief secretary. The university had defended its action.

An education expert claimed that even if the university continues with its decision, the power to annual order, notification, resolution or any process of universities under Section 10 of Karnataka State Universities Act (2000) rests with the government.

The autonomous institution conducted interviews for the post of assistant professors to the departments of electronics, environmental science and food science on Thursday morning, and for physics and mathematics in the noon hours.

The interviews for computer science department will be done on Friday, and for botany and zoology on Saturday.

This is the second round of interview being conducted for the selection of 48 assistant professors-on-contract from among 700 aspirants to 15 subjects. Abound 80 applications have been received for computer science, the highest. As many as 78 candidates have applied for 7 posts in computer science department. The first round of selection was conducted from September 21 to 25.

The college had postponed the interview for electronics, environmental science and food science which was scheduled for October 5 by a day due to a "legal hurdle", an aspirant claimed. Some aspirants have moved the high court, seeking quashing of recruitment notification, claiming "violation of rules".

UoM Syndicate member M S S Kumar had earlier sought the governor-chancellor to stop the process, claiming it is in violation of the latter's notification that institutions heads are restricted from making appointments if their term of office is less than six months and on other grounds. Though the government had asked the university to stop the process, it continued with interviews at Crawford Hall on Thursday, Kumar explained.
