Women in Mysuru to protest in silk saris
Mysuru: A day after International Women's Day, women in Mysuru, will stage a unique protest, by wearing Mysuru silk saris."The protest will send a strong symbolic message to the state govt, to save Mysuru silk, which is among the GI products from the state. By choosing Mysuru silk, which reflects the city's cultural heritage, these women aim to express their concerns impactfully," the organisers said.
"The protest will be held at Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple, Mysuru Palace," said Parashurame Gowda, general secretary of People for Environment. Around 300 to 500 women are expected to take part in the protest. "Women have resisted the proposal by holding small, diverse protests. But now, all of them will stand united to raise their voice against building the stadium on KSIC land."Meanwhile, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, along with senior officials of the district administration, the sericulture department and DYES, will visit the KSIC factory on Thursday. Sources reveal that Yathindra was invited by labour leaders to explain their position. Earlier, Yathindra had made it clear that there was no question of shifting the proposed stadium. Workers have been protesting against the govt's decision to transfer the five acres of land in the factory campus to the DYES for a stadium. The agitation received support from farmers' groups, pro-Kannada organisations, and political parties. KSIC officials wrote that the trees could not be cut, and the land was required for the expansion of the filature factory.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Holi wishes, messages and quotes !
